Disappointing to me
Well, its an alarm. But the app does something that I’ve never seen an app for Mac do and I hope doesn’t become the new trend. When you open the app it has a pop up window trying to sell you other apps to speed up your computer. Suddenly I felt like I was thrown back on a PC or sent over to a porn site. Mackeeper comes to mind. Two freaking clicks to get rid of this thing too! I know it’s a free app, I downloaded it fully intending to buy the paid version if I liked it. I assume the paid version wouldn’t have this. But this is such a horrible thing in my eyes I am not supporting a company that does this. Next thing you know it will be like our iPhones, trying to sell you three other apps before the app you want launches. Ah, the early days with edge network and no advertising when you paid for your apps with a buck rather than clicking off ads!
Quite honestly after the popup window I knew I was writing a review and didn’t care how nice the alarm was or not, but had to take a look at it if I am going to write this. It’s an alarm, it works as one. Some things about it that would keep me from using it even without the popup window. First, you have to download a helper app if you are going to put or let your computer go to sleep. If I am going to sleep, so is my computer, so another app to download. Why not integrate this “helper app”? It is not from the app store, so maybe it does things that aren’t allowed in app store? I don’t know. The other big fault I see in the alarm itself is that it can’t be minimized. You can right click the dock icon and hide it, but why can’t it just work like everything else and have a minimize button? It seems like it is setup to set your alarm and go to bed. I prefer to set my alarm before I’m tired and make an error. The total deal killer for me is that you cannot have a password set if you are letting the computer go to sleep.
